It started with Home Assistant. That turned into building my own home server, which turned into needing somewhere to put it, and somewhere along the way I developed a soft spot for 10" mini racks — small enough to sit on your computer desk, big enough to be useful.

The problem is the current crop. Flimsy and restrictive, most are made with a strict budget in mind (yet lack the strict budget) and don't add much room for customisation outside of different racks. No consistent standard between brands, so an accessory bought for one rack won't fit another. Rarely enough depth for anything with a real power supply behind it. Printed brackets that sag under load, and hole spacing nobody bothers to publish.

Before NB Home Tech, I started NB Audio, selling speaker parts to people building their own gear and manufacturing a small range of my own equipment. That taught me the unglamorous half of the job: giving people a straight answer even when it costs a sale, publishing specs that survive being checked, and standing behind the thing after it's shipped. The other half came from the workshop — CAD, measurement, and years of building things, testing them, and finding out where they fail.

TEN-FOUR is where the two meet: 2020 aluminium extrusion, proper rack rails, usable depth, and an interface spec published for anyone to copy. I'm a big believer in open source — a standard nobody publishes isn't a standard.

From here, the range grows. Shelves, blanking plates, brackets, panels — and a community of mini rack people swapping mods, accessories and builds!

...and yep, NB stands for 'No Bulsh*t'!
